In preparation for Yom Kippur we told the children the story of Yonah and the big fish using a flannel board. We learn through Yonah how important it is that we say that we are sorry and ask forgiveness from our friends and from Hashem when we do something wrong.

Tzedaka and Yom Kippur
As we initiated our Yom Kippur unit, the children each decorated their own Tzedaka box. During Tefillah we began passing around our class Tzedaka box as we emphasized the importance of doing this Mitzvah and assisting those in need.

Our Rosh Hashanah Cards are on the Way!
Gan Reut was so excited when the mail carrier dropped by our classroom to pick up the Shana Tova cards that they worked so hard to make for their families. They are currently in the mail and the children are eagerly awaiting their delivery.
Fun with Apples!
Gan Reut had lots of fun playing a counting game with apples on a tree. We first learned the poem:
Ten red apples growing on a tree,
Five for you and five for me,
There's one little worm you can't see.
Where can that little worm be?
Afterwards the children covered their eyes while the Morot hid the worm under one of the apples. The children each had the opportunity to guess which number apple the worm was under. This fun activity incorporated our literacy and math skills with our Rosh Hashanah unit.

The Finest in Holiday Tableware!
Gan Reut has been busy preparing for Rosh Hashanah. No Yom Tov would be complete without a plate for apples, and a dish for honey to dip them in. Our children worked hard gluing, painting and sticking in order to create magnificent apple plates and honey bowls ensuring that their Rosh Hashanah tables will be properly set.

Apple Discovery!
Gan Reut became scientists as they examined the differences and similarities between a red apple, green apple and yellow apple. They then tasted a slice of each and graphed their preferences using a bar graph and colored blocks. Green apples were Gan Reut's preference!

The children in Gan Reut are experiencing Rosh Hashana in many different forms. They have had so much fun integrating the holiday into their art experiences through blending paints and sponge painting holiday shapes.

Whose Birthday Is It?
We introduced our Rosh Hashanah unit by presenting a gift wrapped birthday present to the children. Whose birthday could it possibly be?! We discovered that soon it will be the world's birthday! We then proceeded to unwrap our present and found an apple, a honey bear, a Shofar, a Kiddush cup, and a Machzor. We will continue to develop our Rosh Hashana theme over the next few weeks.
